WAW wins HLF Lottery Award
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Heritage Lottery Grant to hold events to celebrate ‘The Century of Hope’ , the centenary of (some) women winning the parliamentary vote in 1918, and to record the twenty years’ history of the Archive itself.
More information coming in the New Year.
The photograph is of Swansea Headmistress Emily Phipps (right) and Adelaide Jones (left) outside Emily Phipps' General Election campaign headquarters in Chelsea, December 1918. She stood as an Independent candidate backed by the National Union of Women Teachers in the first election in which women could both vote and stand as candidates.
